Dr. Luigi Ferrucci is a geriatrician and epidemiologist internationally recognized for his pioneering research on the mechanisms of aging and age-related diseases. He currently serves as Scientific Director of the National Institute on Aging (NIA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), where he leads multidisciplinary efforts to uncover the biological pathways that drive aging and to identify interventions that promote healthy longevity.
Dr. Ferrucci is also the principal investigator of the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging (BLSA), the longest-running scientific study of human aging in the world. His work has significantly advanced understanding of frailty, resilience, inflammaging, and the biological underpinnings of physical and cognitive decline.
Throughout his career, Dr. Ferrucci has authored hundreds of peer-reviewed publications and received multiple international awards for his contributions to geroscience. His integrative approach continues to bridge basic research, clinical practice, and public health to improve the quality of life across the lifespan.
