Jean-Marc Lemaitre, PhD, is Research Director at INSERM and co-founder/co-director of the Institute for Regenerative Medicine and Biotherapies (IRMB) at the University of Montpellier.
His pioneering research on cellular reprogramming and aging has redefined the understanding of human longevity. In 2011, his team demonstrated that senescent encore centenarians human cells can be reprogrammed/rejuvenated, proving for the first time that cellular aging is reversible. His extended this work to animal models, exploring partial reprogramming and senescence modulation to restore tissue function and delay aging. His research focuses on epigenetic regulation, stem cell exhaustion, and senolytic strategies for regenerative medicine. He built a reprogramming facility to provide clinical grade iPSC-reprogrammed cells for cell therapies.
He is also inventor of several patents and co-founder and scientific advisor of three biotechnology start-ups. He is also a founding coordinator of the Healthy Longevity Institute in Montpellier, dedicated to advancing integrated approaches to promote healthy lifespan extension.
